Drowning in CVs, where do you start?
According to Glassdoor, one of the world’s largest job recruitment sites – ‘On average, each corporate job offer attracts 250 resumes, of those candidates 4 to 6 will get called for an interview, and only 1 will get the job’. With so many large recruitment companies and mass CV sites, it can often feel overwhelming as to where to start searching for your next employee. If you push your job advertisement across many different recruitment platforms you will receive more interest but ploughing through hundreds of CVs can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Sourcing talent in-house or through one of the large recruitment companies may seem like a quick fix to finding your next marketing star. However, you need to keep a few things in mind.
The first stage of the recruitment process is writing the job spec & advert. If your position advertisement isn’t spot on you will shortly find yourself with endless CVs from candidates that are not quite right and don’t meet your expectations. Many of the large recruitment companies offer thousands of roles across many industries meaning they are not specialised in a single sector. Although you may receive several CVs fitting one or two of your needs e.g. has a business degree or has previous PR agency experience, the candidates put forward may not have come from a fitting company culture or lack specific industry experience.
We have noticed a steady increase with candidates presenting employers with misleading CVs, According to HireRight’s 2017 employment screening benchmark report, ‘85 percent of employers caught applicants fibbing on their CV or applications, up from just 66 percent five years ago’. This not only increases the already lengthy hiring process, it also costs your business time and money.
Furthermore, it can be difficult to know the personal attributes and attitudes of a candidate on paper or through a screen. To understand if someone will fit into your company culture, you will have to meet them face to face and this is something large recruitment companies or mass CV boards cannot offer.
Reviewing endless CVs and gaining an understanding of multiple candidates’ attitudes makes for an unnecessarily long hiring process, meaning you’re unable to do your day job, which may cause other areas of the business to suffer in an already challenging time.
